On 28 February 2021, he uploaded a standup comedy video named “Ghost Story” on his YouTube Channel

In 2022 he became a contestant on Balaji Telefilms’s reality television show Lock Upp, hosted by Kangana Ranaut.[15][16] On 8 May 2022, he was declared the show’s winner.[17] The show was streamed on OTT platforms ALTBalaji and MX Player.[18]

On 5 November 2022, he did a Punjabi song named “Todh” along with Prince Narula and Rony Ajnali.

Since 15 October 2023, Faruqui has been a contestant on the reality TV show Bigg Boss 17. The show is broadcast on the TV channel Colors and streamed on OTT platform JioCinema.

CONTROVERSY:

He also had a tough time as a child dealing with sexual assault by his very family members which he opened up about on Kangana Ranaut’s show ‘Lock Upp’. He revealed that he was abused from the age of 6 and it lasted for about 5 years. That incident left him in pieces. He also revealed that it was the first time he shared about that with anyone.

Munawar Faruqui is well-versed in controversies. The stand-up comedian has wound up in controversies due to his communal jokes. He went to jail in multiple states in 2021 and there were multiple FIRs under his name which stated the reason to be hurting religious sentiments.

In his shows, he was found joking and making controversial statements about Home Minister of India Amit Shah. FIRs were also filed for insulting the deities of the Hindu religion. However, he denied making such statements.

STRUGGLE:

Munawar recalled how his mother and grandmother would make samosas and he would sell those after his father’s debt made it impossible for him to complete his education. “We had a restaurant, but it didn’t work out. Dad lost all his money, was under massive debt, so I had to work. I worked for two months at a gift shop from 9 in the morning to 8 in the night. I made ₹850 per month for working 11 hours a day. I had to walk 3.5km to the shop. I didn’t like it, which is when we decided to do something else,” Munawar told Mashable India in Hindi.

He added, “My mother and grandmother would make samosas at home, and I started a stall outside our house where I’d fry them up and sell them. It was a struggle. I burned my fingers, had hot oil splutter on me. But I became a pro with time, and this business worked.”

Munawar had also talked about the financial struggles they faced in an episode of Lock Upp in 2022, when he had opened up about his mom’s death in 2007.
